At New(T)by Bridge, just at the foot of Windermere, you can spot
this glorious and quite ferocious BUS SHELTER MURAL commissioned
by the FRED project ("an art explosion all over Cumbria")
Two giant newts dance the tango - and what a lounge lizard he
is! - while all the other pond life pursue
their various dinners in the savage world of Underwater.....the
detail is worth a trip to see. By bus, even.
It's on the A 590 Kendal-Barrow express route.
The Parish Council liked it so much they had the shelter rebuilt
to house it - this is the new one. Alas it is
3 feet too short so I had to surgically remove a slice of the
picture, on the left here, the bit with the bug life.
In 2008 it remains unscratched, proving you can put crazy
street / roadside art out there without paranoia about
vandalism - if people like it, they'll be nice to it.
