Over the last 150 years or so Englands broadleaf woodlands have generally ceased to play a real part or provide income to people nearby. Times have changed, these courses focus on what seems relevant today, the underlying theme being access to woodland as a place to live and work.

You can camp in the woodland, please bring own tents and torches etc. Dogs need to be under control and will have to be tied up during the day. 4 wheel drives welcome (no on/off site traffic 10pm-8am). The site is secluded and secure and kids will have a great time. The campsite has 240 volts and basic lighting at nights. Pubs and restaurants are 10 minutes walk away in Cartmel.


Tom Barron has been living and working in woodland for the last 11 years. He is a time served stone mason/lettercutter and learnt charcoal burning and related woodland skills from Walter Lloyd (below) and Bill Hogarth MBE (National Treasure) He has run stone carving courses before and woodburner courses for LILI . With a fantastic new venue the aim is to bring it all together so you can have a great time and take something you made home with you.

The courses include:

camping on site (cartmel has excellent B&B's, pubs hotels etc if you don't want to camp) parking, collection from local train/bus stations.

The use of tools and access to materials, stone/ wood/ steel etc.

Sensible on site facilitys / portaloos / hot water etc

take part in a charcoal burn

These long weekend courses will not be tied to a rigid format, there will be a charcoal barbeque going all day (great for breakfast) along with a basic woodland kitchen so bring your own food and drink.Tea/coffee, bread, water, pots and pans etc will be provided. A fire will be lit in the evenings and there may be a musician or two.

 

Activites include: charcoal making, basic treework, stone walling and carving, pig keeping, making woodburners. cooking with charcoal. chainsaw care. Please specify areas of interest when booking
